Wills and Legacies

For each of us, making a Will or altering an existing Will, are very special opportunities to make the future more secure for our families and friends. However, at the same time, you can also pledge your future support to a cause you care about.

Most charitable donations in the UK are free from inheritance tax, which benefits your family by helping to reduce the tax payable on your estate. Making a gift to the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral in your Will, whether large or small, is a simple and cost-effective way to help preserve this sacred place for the future.

As an independent charity working closely with the cathedral, we have granted funds to many cathedral projects, both great and small, in today’s values worth millions of pounds.

Our funds come from member subscriptions and donations, investment income and Gift Aid. Legacies make a significant addition to the funds we can make available to the cathedral.

Whether you have an emotional link with Salisbury Cathedral, or the City, or if you are a visitor, or have attended one of the great special services at Easter, Advent or Christmas, or you might be a member of the congregation, a volunteer or guide – you can make a vital difference by including the Friends in your Will.

If you would like to support us in this way, all you need to do is speak to your solicitor or whoever draws up your Will for you, and request that the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral (charity no: 243439) should be included either as:

• a residuary beneficiary, to receive the whole or a percentage of your estate after other bequests and liabilities have been met
• a pecuniary beneficiary, to receive a specific sum
• a specific beneficiary, to receive property, stocks and shares, works of art or other objects
• a reversionary legacy, which becomes payable after the death of another named person, often a spouse.
