Grants of money, raised from Friends’ subscriptions and donations, are the cathedral’s lifeblood for maintenance, repairs and upkeep.

Since forming in 1930, we have given grants for projects great and small, worth millions of pounds at today’s values.

The top grants by value are:

  • £1,069,000 for Cathedral repairs and renovations including the Major Repair Programme
  • £983,000 towards new External and Internal Lighting
  • £178,000 for organ restoration
  • £108,000 towards monument conservation

We have given grants totalling £818,000 over eight years towards ‘Little Paradise’, the first new building since medieval times.

Little Paradise gives the cathedral a place for new comfort facilities and storage.
